After her brother is killed by the chief of the secret police, Ariete, China Valdes joins the Cuban underground. She soon meets and falls in love with American expatriate Tony Fenner. Together, they hatch a daring plan: tunnel under the city's cemetery to a plot owned by a high official, assassinate him, and destroy the Cuban hierarchy during the ensuing state funeral. With a dedicated group of revolutionaries, they begin digging, risking everything for their cause.
