On the eve of World War II, a British officer revisits Waterloo Bridge and recalls his youth at the outset of World War I, and the young ballerina he met just before leaving for the front. Myra, the ballerina, stays with him past curfew and is subsequently expelled from the corps de ballet. Forced to survive on the streets of London, Myra descends into despair after hearing that her true love has been killed in action. In reality, he survived, and Myra's hope is rekindled when Roy finds her and brings her to his family's country estate, believing their challenging years may be behind them.
