Set in 1831, Irishman Charles Adare travels to Australia to begin a new life with the assistance of his cousin, newly appointed as governor. Upon his arrival, Charles becomes acquainted with Sam Flusky, a powerful landowner and former convict seeking a business arrangement. At a dinner party at Flusky's house, Charles reconnects with Henrietta, Sam's wife and Charles's childhood acquaintance from Ireland.
