Tired of his office job, Robert Lomax moves to Hong Kong to pursue his passion for painting. He checks into a budget hotel, only to discover it is a meeting place for prostitutes and their clients. Curious about the newcomer who never hires any of the women, the residents want to know more about him. Eventually, Robert hires Suzie Wong to model for him, and soon falls in love. However, with limited funds, he struggles with the reality that he cannot afford to be her only client, leading to emotional conflict as their relationship develops.
