The Unknown Man 1951 DVD - Walter Pidgeon / Ann Harding

Prominent attorney Brad Mason takes on the defense of Rudi Walchek, a young hitman accused of murder. Convinced of the young man's innocence, Mason successfully gets him acquitted. However, Mason later learns from the murder victim's father that Walchek is actually a member of a protection-racket gang and was likely guilty all along. Determined to bring down the true culprit, Mason discovers that the gang leader is the highly respected head of the city's Crime Commission—a man above suspicion. Believing a legal conviction to be impossible, Mason, in a fit of rage, kills the crime boss himself. Unfortunately, all evidence, including the murder weapon, points to Walchek. When Walchek faces trial again, Mason, believing in a higher justice but bound by his professional duty, feels compelled to defend him to the best of his ability.
