Dr. Manning, a wealthy and successful physician, is called out in the middle of the night to see a private patient and mysteriously disappears. The next morning, his wife Annette (Greta Gynt) discovers he is missing. She soon receives a ransom note demanding £5,000 for his safe return. The police become involved as Annette attempts to deliver the ransom to multiple drop-off points specified by the kidnapper. Despite their surveillance, every attempt to catch the perpetrator fails, as the kidnapper avoids the watched locations. Frustrated, Annette hires private detective Nick Logan (Ron Randell) to investigate. The case takes a dark turn when Dr. Manning is found dead. The police devise a plan, using Annette as bait by announcing she can recognize the killer's voice from phone calls, hoping this will force the criminal to act. Working hand in hand with Logan, the police eventually corner the murderer, who reveals an unexpected motive behind the crime.
