The Great Morgan is a 1945 American musical-comedy film released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Noted for its unusual structure within the MGM catalog, the film is a compilation built around a light plot and has a running time of less than 60 minutes. Produced for overseas markets, the film stars Frank Morgan (best known as the Wizard in MGM's The Wizard of Oz) as himself. The premise sees Morgan given the opportunity to assemble his own movie, resulting in a blend of unrelated comedic and musical shorts interspersed with his own short film segments. Highlights include a musical number by dancer Eleanor Powell—originally cut from her 1939 film Honolulu—several songs by Carlos Ramírez, and a performance by Virginia O'Brien backed by Tommy Dorsey and his orchestra. Other segments feature a history of the automobile in suburban America and a profile of a champion badminton player. Cameo appearances include art director Cedric Gibbons, sound supervisor Douglas Shearer, and costume designer Irene. Cast: - Frank Morgan - Leon Ames - Carlos Ramírez Runtime: 57 minutes.
