Portly, hard-boiled private detective Brad Runyan is hired by dental nurse Jane Adams to investigate the unexplained murder of her boss. Suspicion falls on a disappeared patient, Roy Clark, who was helped by probable gangster Gene Gordon. Runyan tracks down Pat Boyd, Clark’s former lover and briefly his wife, who reveals that Clark had served time in jail. Police inform Runyan that Clark's crime was the robbery of half a million dollars, which was never recovered. While in jail, Clark shared a cell with Ed Deets, confiding everything to him. After their release, Deets claims Clark’s share of the loot with Gordon and vowed to eliminate Clark, whose corpse he leaves in a burnt-out truck. When Deets learns Clark had dental work done so his teeth could be identified, he kills the unfortunate dentist and then the nurse to cover his tracks. Runyan pursues Deets, culminating in a final shoot-out where Deets meets his end. Cast: - J.
