Katrin 'Katie' Holstrom, a Swedish-American farmer's daughter, leaves her rural home to study nursing in the city. Her plans are quickly derailed when an acquaintance steals her tuition and living expenses, forcing her to seek employment as a domestic servant for Congressman Glenn Morley. Katie's intelligence, political awareness, and charm soon catch Glenn's attention, and a mutual, unspoken affection develops between them.
