Greg Rawlings, who writes children's books under the pen name Uncle Bump, is struggling to start his next bestseller due to his drinking habits. Martha Terryton, the winner of a contest to illustrate the book, soon finds herself in a comedic predicament when Greg accidentally gets her drunk. In an attempt to keep her around and secure his next book, Greg enlists John McGrath to help by recruiting the mischievous Danny to pose as his son, hoping to garner Martha's sympathy. As Martha becomes more involved, Greg, still nursing a broken heart from his previous love, Tillie, might just find new happiness with her.
