A timid drugstore manager, Warren Quimby, turns to murder after his scheming wife, Claire, leaves him for another man. He devises a complex plan to assume a new identity and frame someone else for the murder of his wife's new lover. However, things take an unexpected turn when someone else commits the murder first, and Warren becomes the prime suspect.
