Verne is desperate to escape from a penal colony located off the northern coast of South America. Initially, he tries to involve Julie, a saloon girl, in his escape plan, but she turns him in to the authorities. On his next attempt, Verne joins six other convicts on their breakout and encounters Julie once again. Among the escapees is a mysterious, spiritual figure who appears to possess foreknowledge of the group's fate. The group must navigate through the jungle, secure a boat, and make their way to the mainland, facing both external dangers and internal struggles along their perilous journey.
