Prizefighter Johnny Monterez is in love with his promoter O'Malley's daughter, Pat. Johnny's best friend, sports reporter Rick Garvey, is also in love with Pat but knows her heart belongs to Johnny. Lonely and heartbroken, Rick turns to drinking and other women, including a brief encounter with Marilyn Monroe’s character in a nightclub. Meanwhile, Johnny must face the troubling reality that his right hand is failing, pushing him to secure his financial future before his boxing career ends.
