During World War II on the island of Java, a small band of Allied soldiers and airmen relentlessly endures daily bombings by Japanese planes. With only one operational fighter plane and five eager pilots, the Dutch commander selects George Collins for a critical mission: to deliver a 500-lb bomb onto a Japanese carrier positioned offshore. As George embarks on this perilous flight, the commander invites the other pilots to recount George's past. Through their stories, we learn of George's transformation from a brilliant law student to a man entangled in political corruption, and his subsequent journey to redemption—for himself and for Freddie, his devoted love.
