Set in the futuristic year of 1980, "Just Imagine" follows J-21 (John Garrick), who navigates a New York City transformed by technological marvels—aircraft hover in place, numbers have replaced names, and even food and liquor come in pill form. J-21 longs to marry LN-18 (Maureen O'Sullivan), but his proposal has been rejected by the marriage tribunal, and LN-18 is being forced to wed the arrogant MT-3 (Kenneth Thomson). J-21's friend RT-42 (Frank Albertson) tries to lift his spirits by taking him to witness the revival of a man from 1930, Single O (El Brendel), brought back to life after being struck by lightning. Single O experiences the strange new world with much comic confusion, especially after discovering pill-highballs and quickly getting drunk. In a bid to win LN-18's hand, J-21 learns from the scientist Z-4 (Hobart Bosworth) about a revolutionary "rocket plane" able to reach Mars. With RT-42 and stowaway Single O, J-21 embarks on an adventure to the red planet, where they are welcomed by the Martian Queen Looloo, the King Loko, and encounter dancing Martian ourangutans. Their visit is interrupted by the villainous twin siblings Booboo and Boko, leading to a daring escape back to Earth. Upon their triumphant return as space pioneers, J-21 is finally allowed to marry LN-18. The film concludes with Single O reuniting with his now-aged son, Axel.
