Based on the biblical Book of Judith, this 1914 silent film depicts the dramatic siege of the Jewish city of Bethulia by the Assyrian army. As the city's inhabitants face starvation and the threat of surrender, a courageous widow named Judith (Blanche Sweet) devises a daring plan to save her people. Disguising herself as a harem girl, Judith infiltrates the enemy camp and seduces the Assyrian general Holofernes (Henry B. Walthall).
