After being found injured by rancher Shep Horgan, Jubal Troop is offered a job as a cowhand and quickly earns Shep's trust. Mae Horgan, feeling trapped in her marriage to Shep, becomes attracted to Jubal, although Jubal is more interested in Naomi Hoktor, who is traveling with a wagon train camped on Shep's land. Pinky, who was previously Shep's top hand and enjoyed Mae's attentions, resents the new situation, leading to inevitable trouble.
