T.H. "Randy" Randall and Valerie Randall are divorced but remain on friendly terms—at least until Valerie has Randy jailed for non-payment of alimony. Randy's attorney, Bill Carter, proposes that the only way to resolve Randy's financial troubles is to get Valerie married to someone else. Ethel, a quirky matron, thinks it's a great idea and arranges a weekend party to pair Valerie with Paul Hunter, a suitable prospect. However, things go awry when the freeloading Freddie crashes the party and takes a strong interest in Valerie—much to Randy's distaste, which only makes Valerie more receptive to Freddie. Carter is unconcerned, believing any new husband will do, but Randy is convinced Freddie is bad news. Realizing he still loves Valerie, Randy resolves to win her back and remarry her himself.
