Mike Lambert, an unemployed mining engineer, arrives in a small town with a bang when the brakes fail on the truck he's driving. At the La Paloma Cafe, he encounters the seductive Paula, and soon finds himself in trouble with the law. After a few meaningful glances, Paula pays his fine and arranges a room for him, but her motives are mysterious. Mike finds work with miner Jeff Cunningham, but despite his intentions, he becomes entangled in Paula's dangerous schemes.
