Hinchcliffe, a ruthless publisher of a sleazy New York tabloid, becomes concerned when the ethical journalistic policies of City Editor Randall lead to a drop in circulation. To boost sales, he pressures Randall to pursue more sensational stories, including reviving the twenty-year-old Vorhees Murder Case. Although the perpetrator was ultimately judged justifiable and has since led an exemplary anonymous life, Hinchcliffe insists the story be revisited. Randall assigns Isopod, an alcoholic and degenerate reporter, to uncover anything lurid about the case. Posing as a minister, Isopod fraudulently gains entry to the Vorhees' home and obtains the exposé he sought. In this triumph of yellow journalism, a decent woman's reputation is destroyed yet again—with tragic consequences. Cast: - Edward G. Robinson as Joseph W.
