Danny Haley's bookie operation is shut down, so he and his pals desperately need money. When Danny meets Arthur Winant, an out-of-town newcomer, he lures him into a series of poker games. Ultimately, Winant loses $5,000 that doesn't belong to him and, overwhelmed, takes his own life. Unbeknownst to Danny and his friends, Winant had a shadowy, protective elder brother bent on personal revenge. One by one, each card player feels a faceless doom closing in.
