Crossroads 1942 DVD - William Powell / Hedy Lamarr

In 1935 Paris, French diplomat David Talbot (William Powell) and his new bride Lucienne (Hedy Lamarr) are enjoying their third month of marriage when Talbot is confronted by Carlos Le Duc (Vladimir Sokoloff), an extortionist demanding money in exchange for keeping Talbot's past a secret. During Le Duc's trial, the defense claims he was merely seeking payment of a debt from a former criminal associate. Talbot is accused of being that notorious criminal, but Henri Sarrou (Basil Rathbone) testifies on Talbot's behalf, denying the accusation. Talbot insists that amnesia prevents him from knowing the truth about his past, a claim supported by psychologist Dr. Tessier (Felix Bressart). Ultimately, Le Duc is convicted. However, Sarrou soon reveals his true intentions by visiting Talbot at home, confessing that his testimony was part of a scheme to set Talbot up for blackmail. Sarrou demands a million francs, allegedly half of the loot from a past crime Talbot committed during his forgotten criminal phase. As Talbot struggles to uncover the truth about his own past, he must navigate Sarrou's threats while desperately trying to protect his marriage and keep Lucienne in the dark.
