Set in November 1941, "China Girl" follows American news photographer Johnny 'Bugsy' Williams, who escapes from the Japanese and finds himself back in Burma. There, he meets the beautiful Miss Haoli Young. Johnny, also a flyer, is urged by his friend Shorty McGuire to join the Flying Tigers. While he could make a fortune filming the Burma Road, he chooses instead to spend time with Haoli. However, she leaves unexpectedly for Kunming, where her father runs a school. With a price on his head and spies in pursuit, Johnny learns that the Japanese plan to attack Kunming. He sets out on a daring mission to rescue Haoli.
