Calcutta 1947 DVD - Alan Ladd / Gail Russell

Commercial pilots Neale Gordon and Pedro Blake regularly fly the dangerous "Hump" route between Chungking and Calcutta. Upon arriving in Calcutta, they discover their friend Bill Cunningham has been murdered. Neale's investigation takes him to the Chalgani Club, operated by Eric Lasser. Marina Tanov, the club's Russian singer who harbors feelings for Neale, reveals that Bill was engaged to Virginia Moore, an American woman. Virginia confesses that Bill gave her a valuable $10,000 necklace—an oddity since Bill never had such money. Neale digs deeper and confirms that Bill indeed purchased the necklace. While drinking with Virginia, Pedro shows Neale a valuable star-sapphire he found in the hangar. The pieces begin to fit together, and the pilots uncover a smuggling operation at the heart of the mystery. Throughout his investigation, Neale becomes convinced of Virginia's innocence.
