American correspondent Bill Roberts is a thorn in the side of the Nazis, as his newspaper consistently reveals the truth about Germany. Gestapo Captain Carl Von Rau is determined to stop these leaks and enlists Karen Hauen—whom he intends to marry—to uncover the source. Roberts receives information for his stories and broadcasts from an elderly stamp collector who, defiantly opposed to the Nazis, communicates via coded stamps. Roberts invites Karen to his apartment and she discovers his secret. When the old philatelist is sent to a concentration camp, Karen learns that he is her father. She pleads with Roberts for help, and, moved by loyalty to her father and his growing love for Karen, Roberts agrees.
