Colonel John Wister, serving with the British army in the desert region of Dubik, returns to England on leave. There, he falls in love with Julia Ashton, a woman who believes she is incapable of love after the death of her fiancé. Wister persuades Julia to marry him, assuring her that his love is strong enough for them both. After their marriage, she accompanies him back to Dubik, where she meets his adjutant, Captain Denny Roark. Roark, a dashing young officer, reminds Julia of her lost love, and she soon discovers she can love again—but her feelings are for Roark, not her husband. As tensions and conflict escalate with local tribes, and Wister becomes aware of the growing, though unconsummated, romance between Julia and Roark, tragedy looms.
