Kate Bosworth and her twin sister Patricia both fall in love with Nantucket lighthouse inspector Bill Emerson. Patricia and Bill marry, leaving Kate heartbroken; she attempts to move on by returning to painting. When Bill travels to Chile, Kate and Patricia go sailing. A tragic accident occurs: Patricia is washed overboard and drowned. After Kate's boat capsizes, she is found and, mistaken for Patricia, is told that Bill is returning from Chile.
